Atlanta, Georgia — (CNN) Atlanta’s city council approved a $600,000 upgrade to a floor cleaner service for luxury brands and other businesses that provides roof cleaning services.
The council voted 8-1 Wednesday to approve the plan to expand the service to include cleaning floors in restaurants, shops, and other establishments in the city, a project that is expected to bring in at least $2 million a year for the city.
The move will also allow the city to offer additional cleaning services for residents, the council said.
The city’s Department of Transportation has already opened up the service, and plans to expand it to a larger area.
The new service is scheduled to open in March 2019.
Atlanta’s mayor, Kasim Reed, has promised to work with the city council to get it moving as quickly as possible.
“I’ve been working with the Atlanta City Council on a very innovative plan to improve the city’s services and facilities, and I think the public deserves a better service that meets their needs,” Reed said Wednesday.
